OK the actual point. As summer is upon us, I realised I had no summer clothes. OK, so I have some things, but it just seems to consist of me putting on a tshirt with a pair of denim shorts, which is super lazy of me.
My problem with dressing for summer is that it mostly seems to consist of floaty and floral things - which for me, I don't like wearing. Maxi dresses... just no, I'm too tall really and I like my legs to be out (although it would reduce amount of sunscreen I had to use). Floral tops aren't my bag, I feel too Hippy McDrippy (Peace out). Which has left me struggling somewhat. With Wimbledon on the horizon, what better time than to do a post on how to dress with the panache of a tennis player?? And the additional "coolmax" benefits that such clothes often have built in? Last year, I did do Wimbledon style, but this year, I want to apply it to real life! It's basically the summer version of preppy.
Brands to look out for
Lacoste, Fred Perry and Stella McCartney for Adidas are the classics, but any sports shop will have the goods. Also look at Ralph Lauren Polo, Calvin Klein, Sweaty Betty, American Apparel, Nike (and other sports brands).
Breakdown
Polo shirts with pleated skirts
Any form of polo collar!! Alternatively, tops with wide straps.
Tennis dresses
Visors
Sweat Bands
Plimsolls
Canvas shorts
Loose sweaters for evening/breezey times/unpredictable English weather/tying around shoulders
Tennis Racquet bags! And tennis racquet/balls!
Colours - traditionally pastels, but of course you can use brights!! Balance out with white rather than black.
Pearls to glam it up a little
Here's a Polyvore set to sum up what I think I could wear as part of Tennis Chic - I'm not really a pastel girl, but it's fun to play with the clothes!

Got Tennis? by evil_ginner featuring Nike shoes
Individual items which I've looked up:
A "tennis hoody", for when things get a little chilly on court - £60, Sweaty Betty
Sweat bands telling it like it is... £4, Sweaty Betty
This skirt would work in any wardrobe, not just a tennis idoliser's!!! Super cute, flippy, but heavy enough to play tennis without exposing self! And it has a bow detail on the back apparently. £45, Sweaty Betty
Cute flippy (that word again!) dresses, which could easily be accessorised. Come on, these last ones are even drop waisted, a la 1920s! Bling it up with gold jewelery, add neons (particularly to that dark purple Maria Sharapova beauty), add a little cashmere cardigan or a black leather jacket or even play tennis in them - so versatile!Gala also did a post about tennis chic a couple of years ago - check it out!!

I love the tennis chic look. I'm not a huge tennis player, but the women always look so cute playing.
I love sweaty betty, I'm gonna go drool in store Friday
I could do with some yoga gear so I can at least price it up
(yoga is as active as I get!)
My favorite sport. I heart the tennis wear! :)

Oooh I love tennis chic!! Cute Polyvore.
While I enjoy the floral, floaty stuff, I kind of agree it can be a bit much sometimes. It seems like you prefer the clean, crisp simple look of summer, which is also pretty fab. :)
Very cute Polyvore. :)
And thanks for your comment. Yes, I know it's from enchanted! That's one of my favorite movies.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Hopefully you keep coming back. :)
P.S. Your blog is very cute.
I love your "ANTM" poses at the bottom. Haha

I so love this post. I have always been a fan of the tennis look - it's so playful, sporty, and completely cute! :)
Wow, another Oxford blogger! Who's the other one you found?
I've just started my blog but I'm finding it very fun and interesting, and Oxford's such a good place to do it, too!
Are you all finished in Oxford forever, then, or are you sticking around some more? It'd be a shame to have found a new interesting person for her to leave so fast...
Thanks for the comment, and I love your blog. We should really go shopping some time if you're around, I love your style!

Those dresses are too cute. I'm tempted to take lessons now.
Beautiful selection.
I love tennis-chic style... I'm just too bad at playing such sport!
